Calling Wesley Boy

Wes, apparently you should be able to get into Hotmail in some places in Burma. Ferg & Roland are back in the big BKK and said that a lot of internet cafes bypass the censors, because gmail and Yahoo mail are also blocked, but they were able to check their email. So, hopefully when you see this you’ll also read my email (in your hotmail account). If not, I’ll see you back on the 10th, don’t think I’ll go to Koh Pah-Ngan, but might do Pattaya instead for a couple of days.

Live it large, see you soon!

Back Online

At long, long, long last, I’m back online at home! :D

Fergus (new window) and Roland (new window) are back tomorrow, so no doubt they’ll be pleased by the added convenience at the Hotel Callum.

Unfortunately we’re using the old router from the office which, to put it politely, is fubar’d (f***ed up beyond all recognition), so things like MSN messenger don’t work, and it can be a little slow, but fear not, I shall be replacing the router with my first pay cheque next month!

Bed Surfing

I was bed surfed last night by lucky Lau and Christina (new window)!! A couple of fellow couch surfers arriving in Bangkok on a quick visa run, they ended up in my bed while I slept on the floor. I know, I know, my generosity knows no bounds, but fear not, I won’t let it happen again! :)

Skype finally gets an upgrade

Skype LogoAt long, long, long last, Skype have finally released an update to their Linux version. The latest beta (testing) release now supports ALSA sound. Without getting into the nitty gritty of how it works, it means I can now be listening to music on the computer when Skype rings and it works. Seems simple I know, but until this release Skype simply didn’t work properly on Linux.

Will this mean I stay with Skype? Probably not, but I might keep it installed anyway until somebody releases an open source alternative that allows me to connect to the Skype network. Here’s hoping…

My Couch Schedule Online

I’ve had so many requests through couch surfing (new window) that I’ve had to put my poor couch’s schedule online (new window)! So if you’re thinking about visiting Bangkok, check the schedule, then drop me an email with your suggested dates and I’ll get them blocked off!

It’s crazy, I’ve been on the site for a couple of weeks and I’ve received something like 7 requests so far! I’ve had to turn a few people away on account of scheduling conflicts already. Bangkok’s a popular place to visit!

Couch Surfing Bonanza

I think I must be the most popular man in Bangkok, I’ve already had 4 people send me requests to couch surf! I’ve only been on the site less than a month. I’ve already had my first guest and my first scheduling conflict! It must be my stunning photo on my profile!

Lorenzo stayed for a few nights before meeting his girlfriend to head north for a few days. I think he’s due back in the big BKK any day now. I’ve got a couple of Ozzie guys headed here next week and a couple of Canadian circus girls (sounds interesting…) a while after that. It’s all go here!

Dreamweaver on Linux

With remarkably little trouble, I installed Dreamweaver on Linux today. Thanks to the wonder of Wine (new window), a windows emulator for Linux, I was able to also install Internet Explorer 6, then Dreamweaver MX, and it worked like a charm. Beautiful, see…

I did receive one error message about Microsoft Data Access Components at the beginning of the install, but then it installed anyway. I believe you have to install Internet Explorer 6 before Dreamweaver, and you have to ensure you only have drive C mapped in Wine. If you have other drives mapped Dreamweaver will crash at the splash screen. More info on winehq (new window).
