At long, long, long last, Skype have finally released an update to their Linux version. The latest beta (testing) release now supports ALSA sound. Without getting into the nitty gritty of how it works, it means I can now be listening to music on the computer when Skype rings and it works. Seems simple I know, but until this release Skype simply didn’t work properly on Linux.
Will this mean I stay with Skype? Probably not, but I might keep it installed anyway until somebody releases an open source alternative that allows me to connect to the Skype network. Here’s hoping…
