Victor and I decided to head down to Koh Pha Ngan for new year. Seemed like a good idea at the time!
After a late bus departure, a late arrival, a late check in and a late boat depature we were finally onboard the High Speed Catamaran headed for Koh Tao en-route to Koh Pha Ngan. Oh dear, it reminded me of the speed boat up the Mekhong River, somehow the fastest option always seems to be most unpleasant! The sea was choppy to say the least, there were sick bags aplenty and lots of them being used!
The we arrived on Koh Pha Ngan two days before the new year party, with nowhere to stay, good idea lads! We joined about a zillion other people searching for somewhere to stay. Finally, we found something nice, although only for 2 of our 3 nights, but it has a hot shower, air-con, and it’s a pretty nice hotel.
Hey, we’ve made it. Thought I’d share this lovely loo with you!
I spent ages looking for a way to convert a VCF file (output from Evolution) to a simple CSV (to mail merge). I found a fantastic solution which you can either use online, or for the security conscious (or paranoid) you can also download an run on your own server. VCF-Convert from brotherli.ch (new window).
I think Tom is the person I’ve known for the longest in Bangkok. He introduced me to my current job, showed me a new level of Playstation addiction, and was always there when beers where required. Alas, his three year reign in Bangkok has come to an end, last night was his final night before heading back to New York…
I happened upon the web site of Micro Optical today and spotted this awesome little gadget (new window). It’s a VGA (640×480) head mounted monitor. Insane! You can literally wear the thing on your head! Talk about dual monitors, but this would be nuts…
Naturally I’ve dispatched an email to enquire about the cost of such extravagance and will report further developments…
Yesterday I upgraded to Fedora Core 6. All in all, a smooth process. Took a few hours on Sunday, couple of hours today recovering stuff as I needed it, and everything seems to be working like a charm.
I also upgraded to Firefox 2.0, lovely, major improvement on the previous version. It includes spell checking in text fields, so this post is spell checked courtesy of Firefox!
For those that are interested, I’ve decided to give up on using Linux as a tablet. I’m instead going to, somewhat sadly, install Windows for my mobile, tablet related stuff.
On the plus side, with one click in Fedora Core 6 I was able to run Xgl, which is an awesome 3d desktop. Check it out…
Now if that’s not a good enough reason to switch over to Linux for you non-believers, I don’t know what is…
It was a weekend of leaving celebrations, Morgan left us on Saturday afternoon back to the sunny paradise of Brisbane. Needless to say, a few drinks were in order on Friday night…
Last night was a triple celebration. Ian and Simon were celebrating turning another year older, and Pepe was celebrating his last night in Bangkok. The sensei will be missed…
