I went to the last of 4 Melbourne Symphony Orchestra free concerts in the Sidney Myer (new window) Music Bowl this afternoon. The sun set this evening in Melbourne to Rachmaninoff’s (new window) second symphony. Tremendous.
The fantastic performance was followed by a little fireworks display, of which you can see a sample below. Click the image for a few more…

Since being in Australia my diet has consisted primarily of pasta, a little pasta and some more pasta, on account of it’s affordable price and ease of preparation. It’s interesting how, although somewhat tedious, I can eat pasta day after day, but after a week of eating rice I can’t stand the sight of it. Ahh good old wheat…

The wifi revolution has reached the house, we are now online!
A few of my house mates fighting off the freezing Melbourne nights…

Just had a chat with Twang, one of the house owners (the house I’m staying in) and we’re going to hook up a wireless connection later today. So I should have wifi in da house in the next day or so. Bring it on…
It’s cold. Cold, cold, cold. Very cold. I’m wearing a jacket outdoors for the first time in over a year. Who’s idea was it to leave Thailand?
I plan to hit the streets in the next few days with camera in hand, so you can expect pictures soon.
It’s the small things I appreciate having been in Asia for a year. Good coffee. Asking the bus driver where this bus goes. Understanding taxi drivers. Well maintained pavements. Ahh, the simple pleasures…
A few people said to me, they’d been to Darwin and it was closed, now I understand…

Darwin has been an experience. But the lack of couch surfers, the lack of people in general and spotting a flight to Melbourne for a mere $140 AUD (£60 / $120 USD) have won out, I’m outta here. I catch a fairly anti-social flight at 23:45 this evening, arriving in sunny Melbourne tomorrow morning around 5:30.
Thanks to Ranj and his new hostel, I have a place to stay organised already, fantastic!
