What are you running away from?

When one embarks on a journey, it is often asked, “What are you running away from?” I wonder if they asked Christopher Columbus the same question.

Is it not the potential prize that is of greater appeal than the current circumstance? Personally, I never felt like I was running away, if anything, I was running towards. Running towards adventure, exploration, self discovery, broader horizons.

I wonder if the question speaks more about the asker than the asked.

  1. This reminds me of a post i wrote (which i now can’t find) in which i suggested that i went to Asia to ‘find myself’ and instead found the rest of the world!

    Bring on the adventure!

  2. I started running shortly after learning walk and have been going round in circles for as long as I can remember!
As I age, I find myself no longer running, but crawling around in circles looking for my purpose in this existence.
When I stop, I will either have found my answer or I will be dead 🙂
