I am sorry that I was not clear enough, the from field in the plugin works GREAT….
I just want to take it one step farther…

In a return email I see,
www_maindomain_com

What I want to see is
www_SUBdomain_com

I want to change the first part of the from line to no longer be our main domain but customize it for the user.

I may be asking for something that is not possible, since we are using multisite. But it doesn’t hurt to ask!

I’m not sure what you’re asking. You repeated the same web address twice. I’m not sure what you want to change or what you’re currently seeing. The From address will only override emails sent by WordPress with the default wordpress@domain.tld email address.

Thank you for a wonderful plugin~ I am using in on a multisite install right now.
It has saved me in so many ways! I love having the options panel in the subdomains so that it can be configured independently. And it helps so much when a user calls me and says…oops…I changed my password and I show them where they need to change it in their website too.

I am more that satisfied with the functioning of it but would like to take it to the next “white label” level for my customers.

Right now when I change the from email it will only replace the second part of the from email (in the ) as follows:
http://www.realestatebroker.com

It is ok now, but I would like to replace the http://www.realestatebroker.com part too! Just to give the subdomain user a more white label feel.
like the following:
http://www.lajolla.realestatebroker.com

Is that possible even on a multi site? Or is that the default because they are using our email servers. (www.realestatebroker.com)

I have read through your comments which were very helpful but still haven’t found a similar question to what I am hoping we can do!
I am comfortable working in the config file, I just need to know what to look for to address this in the individual multisites.

You’re using port 587? Port 25 is often blocked.

Hi,
I checked with our website host and they ran a test and confirmed that outgoing connections were not blocked. I also double checked the mail settings: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows/outlook/send-receive-from-app and all is correct. Any other ideas?

actually what i want to do is, i want to install two vm on a ubunut host. specially i am intrested in bridging because i want to communication between both vm in such a way so that packet going from one VM to another VM can be sniffed using host machine. Is it possible using host only adapter if possiblre please guide me to right way?

Recent version of VirtualBox include a “host only” type of network adapter, so this whole configuration is now obsolete.

Very good article but there is a problem for me.
I am using virtual box 4.2.8 with ubuntu 12.04 host and ubuntu 11.10 guest. I am unable to setup bridge networking beetween host and guest. here i am pasting configuration of interfaces.
Configuration on Ubunutu12.04 host
auto lo

gateway 192.168.56.1

But it is not working when i ping it just says destination host unreachable. Please help

You need to try the correct port for the mail server. So you need to check with the mail server admin what port to use. It’s usually provided along with the other information. If using the correct port doesn’t work, you could try contacting your host and ask if outgoing connections from PHP are blocked. That might be the underlying cause of the issue.

Unfortunately a bug in WordPress means that it always reports success. Thanks for the screenshot, very helpful. You almost certainly need to change the port number from 25 to something else, depending on which server you're using. I'd guess that's your issue as many hosts block port 25 to stop indiscriminate spamming. If the correct port number doesn't work, let me know and I'll have another look.

Hi,
I am having a lot of trouble her and I hop you can help.

I have several websites set up:
The emails are being hosted on live.com and the websites are hosted on Dreamhost (I did not set this system up)

I am using Gravity forms and not getting notifications.

The issue is I don’t know what settings to put in the advanced email ioptions.

When I put smtp.live.com I get
SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: (0)

The following From address failed: thana@digitalkonnection.com

If I put in smtp.digitalkonnection.com
I get SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known (0)

The following From address failed: thana@digitalkonnection.com

If I use mail.live.com
I get SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Connection timed out (110)
and sometimes SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Connection refused (111)

The following From address failed: thana@digitalkonnection.com

It says the test message was sent (TRUE) but I never receive anything

I’ve tried all sorts of combinations with the check boxes and nothing seems to work! http://awesomescreenshot.com/0e7170tb9e

I went through the process of making the deb file since my list of packages was slightly different. Strangely I still had to install texlive-doc-base, no matter what I did.

Most of what you’ve written here was similar to me. One year ago my Lenovo was not the quality laptop I had expected, there were too many hardware issues and after Ubuntu fucked up with Unity Gnome started doing likewise with Gnome 3. I needed a new laptop and I needed to work with it out of the box. Apple was the only company offering something like that.

Unless other companies manage to break Microsoft’s semi-monopoly and start selling laptops with a nice GNU/Linux OS. I’m hoping Google will pull it off with Chromebook but I haven’t seen or even touched on so far.

I think Ubuntu is still good enough for desktops though. But who’s still using a desktop?

I’m not very familiar with all this stuff. I posted what worked for me at the time, but since then I’ve moved to using 1 NAT adapter and 1 host-only adpater. That “just works” for me. If my laptop is offline, the NAT adapter doesn’t work, but the host-only does. I did all of this without TAP / TUN or otherwise. Best of luck finding a solution.

I ‘ve been really stuck up trying to established a connection between
the Host OS & VirtualBox, Really Appreciate the help!! I ‘ve tried the solution that you suggested here but to no avail.

I ‘ve installed Virtualbox 4.2.10 on RHEL 6 and installed guest OS
RHEL 6 on it. I ‘ve configured NAT & Host-only adapter in order to
established the connection with the Virtualbox from the Host OS. and The Host server is connected to Internet through a modem not to any Office network as this is a Personal server.

The Host OS IP is 192.168.56.8 & its DNS is 192.168.56.1 which i ‘ve assigned through the system-config-network utility on RHEL 6. and followed the instructions for the Guest VM IP given here. i.e guest configured
NAT & Host-only adapter for the Virtualbox given here. and also checked with the ifconfig command that
the IPs assigned correctly.
The Guest Virtualbox IP: 192.168.56.100 & DNS 192.168.56.1 which i ‘ve assigned through the system-config-network utility on RHEL 6.

But still I can not ping the Host OS from the Guest OS i,e from the VirtualBox
when i ping the host OS it says that the Network unreachable.

The entries in the /etc/hosts & /etc/resolv.conf for the Host IPs and the DNS which is same as that of HOST OS is there. But it failed to establised connectivity from the Guest OS to Host OS. although i can ping the
guest OS from the Host OS.

Could you please suggest what i need to do inorder to establish connectivity from Guest OS to Host OS.

The issue is that the Host machine is able to connect to Virtualbox i.e on which the virtualbox is installed But not vice versa i.e Failed to ping the server from Virtual machine.
even though Virtual machine can connect to Internet but not able to ping the server. there is no ISsue in sharing a folder from the Host OS to virtaulbox . able to mount share directory from the Guest OS i.e from VirtualBox.
i ‘ve disabled the SELINUX in both the machine as well.

when i ping the Host machine from the virtualBox . ping ebs1.oracle.com or ping IP it says Destination host unreachable. But can ping the Virtual machine from the Host.

Please see the following configuration of /etc/hosts & /etc/resolv.conf of both the machine.
Host OS which is ebs.oracle.com & Guest OS i.e VirtualBox which is ebs1.oracle.com. And the IPs of both are : 192.168.1.1 And 192.168.1.8 & the DNS which i ‘ve configure is 192.168.1.1.

As the machine having 2 Ethernet cards so it Automatically assigned the eth1 IP to 192.168.1.2 . And virbr0 inet addr is ISP assigned address as the server is connected to internet
through a modem. And vboxnet0 is VirtulaBox & whose IP is :192.168.1.8.

Could you Please suggest How could both the Host & guest OS which virtualbox can communicate i.e act like two Server which is connected as I wanna Install IDM database on
the Virtualbox machine which is going to be Integrated with EBS R12 database which is installed on the Host OS.

Is it the Issue with the DNS which same as IP add of the Host OS ?

Could you please suggest what i need to do in order to make the connection between Host OS & VirtualBox,

I’m not sure what the plugin does if a user is not logged in. By the sounds of it, WordPress kicks in and redirects them to the login page. You could probably modify the plugin code to achieve your goal.

I can’t seem to get this to work, I have a page link which goes to wp-admin, and using this plugin I wish for any non-admins to be redirected to the homepage instead but I am directed to the wp-login screen. I have changed the user settings in the config to be ‘read’ so catches all subscribers.. have I missed something?

Special thanks for this. I’ve copy both files to internal sd an moved this with “root explorer” app in the target directory. Reboot and fine. The app “Runtastic” is now successfully installed and working.

Now I’ve a other problem. I’ve a SGS3 and Cyanogenmod 10.1. I use philz touch Recovery (advanced CWM). So I’m able to use the auto-update function in Cyanogenmod. Problem, after a update the both files are away (Runtastic App also) and I must copy again in target directory. After copy the files and reboot, runtastic app is available and working (without reinstall). Some for Endomondo.

Is there any way that this 2 files are fixed in the directories? With gapps is working fine. But I’ll not using gapps.

I’ll not use the google Ad-/Spyware also…Playstore not needed.

Hope you can understand (German).

I’m not clear on the purpose of logging wp_mail() calls with a lower priority. The function arguments should be logged as they were sent, to get the best picture of what’s going on. Or maybe I’m misunderstanding what you mean. Can you give me a bit more detail?

I installed the pluggin wp mail smtp and tested it. The test mail was sent to destination e-mail. However when I try to send an e-mail throught the locally hosted site it says:Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.
How can the test message works on the pluggin test but sending mail through the website hested locally does not!!

Thanks Callum. The solution in the end was to reinstall the modules and recreate the contact form. After that it worked like a charm. Regarding the logging: yes, I found out it is not possible to record the result, but setting the logging to much later, correctly show me what was happening, so I would suggest doing that to your module. It's meant to run early so as to catch all calls to wp_mail() I think. It's only supposed to log calls to the function, not results, as far as I remember, it's been a while! I'm not sure if you can log the SMTP mail send errors. Does your mail server reject emails if they have the wrong sender address? Could be that the contact form is changing the "From" to be the submitted instead of WordPress. Try changing the "From email" on the options page and then sending another test message to the same email address as the contact form. Also, check if the contact form plugin uses wp_mail() at all, or if it calls mail() directly or has its own delivery method.

Check if the emails that are failing are being logged. If they are not, then they’re not generating a call to wp_mail(), that’s your problem. If they are logged, maybe there’s some info as to what’s going wrong with them.

Hi installed both your plugins… it is writing to the log file, but what am i suppose to be looking fro in the log file?

My problem is strange as your SMTP plugin sends test message no problem, secure invite plugin worx 100%, invite anyone plugin works 100%, BP Group Mail plugin worx 100% – EXCEPT no user activation or joining emails are being sent

Hi Callum,

Firstly, thanks for writing a decent tool to manage the smtp settings.

I installed it but for some reason I can get a test email send to work, but not the site contact form. I’ve also installed your log plugin, but that doesn’t reveal any issues or errors. I also had to change its priority to last because with a 1 priority, it runs BEFORE you have configured the SMTP settings for phpmailer.

Not sure how to get wordpress to actually log the smtp mail send errors. A little frustrating!

Any help would be appreciated!

If you have deleted the plugin files, it has been 100% removed. I’d guess your login issues are unrelated, the plugin doesn’t affect logins, only access to the admin interface.

Sounds like progress. The memory limit error is a strange one, not sure if it’s connected or not. Have you got email working now?

Turning on fsockopen in php settings helped. Now I have “cannot connect to server” error, which is in your faq.

Currently I see only this in the logs (appears when I try to send test):

Woohoo, a real question with a real problem! Don’t know what the cause it, but the answer lies in your PHP error logs. That’s the only place to diagnose the dreaded WSOD unfortunately! Let me know what you find in there and I’ll do my best to help…

I remember seeing this issue before. Try searching back on the old comments here. Use ctrl-f or apple-f in your browser.

I’ve installed the plugin and made all settings (smtp options taken from my hoster), but attempt to sent a test from the page ends with white screen. No error messages, just the screen of death. This screen appears both at smpt and php mailer options chosen…
What could be a problem at?

Thank you very much for sharing this useful plugin!
I have a problem with the reset password functionality. No email is sent. This message appears:
“The e-mail could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function…”

The registration email is sent correctly so the email settings are fine.

Strange, my bookmarks are definitely separate, but I’ve never imported them. If you manually delete from one profile does it also delete on the other?

as per your suggestion instead of using import from chrome i went to import from HTML file so now it has nothing to do with chrome exporter .Still got the same result
